According to ABC 7 News, a woman killed in a Los Angeles wrongful death accident when the Uber car she was riding in was hit by what is believed to have been a bullet from a gang-related shooting.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials responded to the shooting around 10:15 p.m. Three people, including the driver, were in the Uber. They heard gunshots, and then the vehicle was hit. The victim, a woman in her 30s, was sitting in the passenger seat when she was shot in the head. She was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, buy died shortly thereafter. Continue Reading

According to the The Patriot, the man believed to have killed a Long Beach Fire Captain was found dead in the hospital jail ward at Los Angeles County – USC Medical Center.  You may recall that on June 25, 2018, Thomas Man Kim, age 77, allegedly shot Captain Dave Rosa, a Long Beach Fire Captain, who was responding to a purported explosion and fire at the Covenant Manor Senior Living Facility in the 600 block of East Fourth Street.  Kim was a resident of the facility at the time of the explosion and fire.

Kim allegedly created the explosion to try to kill his neighbor with whom he allegedly was feuding.  When the police and firefighters arrived, Kim became scared and began shooting at these first responders, killing Captain Rosa and injuring another firefighter who fortunately survived.  Continue Reading

Around noon on August 3rd, two drivers died, and a bicyclist was injured in a Malibu car accident. According to ABC 7 News, the car accident occurred between a grey Mercury minivan and a red Dodge Ram pickup truck. The minivan was driving west on the Pacific Coast Highway when it crashed through the median and hit the red pickup truck traveling eastbound. Witnesses said the scene looked like an explosion as the two cars collided head-on.

The Los Angeles County Fire department responded to the car accident scene and pronounced both male drivers dead at the scene. A nearby bicyclist, who was apparently hit by a wheel that came off the pick-up truck, was transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment.  Continue Reading

According to ABC 7 News, just before 4 a.m. on June 28, 2018, on the 5 Freeway in Santa Ana, a driver of a Jaguar sedan crashed head-on into a motorcyclist. The Santa Ana motorcycle accident killed both the Jaguar driver and the motorcyclist on impact.

The Jaguar driver, who caused the collision, was driving in the wrong direction on the freeway—travelling southbound while in the northbound carpool lane. Officers reported that the vehicles immediately burst into flames. The accident mangled the motorcyclist’s body, making it “one of the worst [accidents] in a while.” The northbound freeway was closed for hours.

A San Bernardino County pedestrian accident in Bloomington this week caused the death of three siblings, and left their mother seriously injured. According to CBS News, 19-year-old Leonardo Bravo lost control of his Dodge Challenger and collided with the group of pedestrians. The car continued forward, finally crashing into a tree and brick wall.

The pedestrians, a 20-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy, and a 14-year-old girl, were walking home with their mother along Slover Avenue when the accident occurred. The mother, who survived the accident, was rushed to the hospital with moderate injuries.  Continue Reading

ABC 7 News reports that Christopher Morales and Desmond Franklin were killed when the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee ran a red light and slammed into their car. The two friends were out for an early birthday celebration for Morales who would have turned 26 a few days later.

Morales and Franklin were both passengers in a car driven by Morales’ girlfriend, who was injured in the Riverside car accident. The friends were driving in Riverside near the 60 Freeway, when the Jeep driver ran the red light causing the fatal accident. The Jeep driver got out of his car and fled the scene.

However, a few hours later police arrested Eric Figueroa-Reyes while he was at the hospital seeking medical attention for a broken knee-cap he sustained in the crash. While Riverside police are still investigating what exactly caused Reyes to run the red light, he will likely face criminal charges for hit and run.   Continue Reading

On the evening of June 11, 2018, a multi-car collision on the 5 Freeway in Arleta caused the deaths of a 30-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, who died at the scene. Also injured in the multi-car Arleta accident were 2 other people, including an 85-year-old woman and a 21-year-old woman.

According to ABC 7 News, the two injury victims were transported to the hospital. The 85-year-old woman was in fair condition, but the 21-year-old woman was in critical condition. The crash shutdown all southbound lanes of the freeway for nearly seven hours.

Officials believe that the crash occurred when one of the vehicles stalled in the middle lane of the southbound 5 freeway. Another vehicle following behind struck the car traveling at freeway speeds, causing other vehicles to be involved.

Last fall, 12 wildfires tore across Northern California. The fires burned over 245,000 acres in Northern California, destroying 8,800 structures along the way and forcing over 100,000 people to evacuate. According to CBS News, a report by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says that PG&E (Pacific Gas & Electric Co.) equipment caused several of these fires.

In total, the 12 fires killed 44 people, 15 of those deaths were attributed to two of the fires started by PG&E equipment. The investigation shows that there were violations of state law in regard to the care of the equipment including issues with electric power and distribution lines and the failure of power poles.  Continue Reading

The family of a bicyclist, who died when he was struck by a sheriff’s deputy who was driving while distracted by a digital device, will be paid $11.75 million by the city of Los Angeles as a settlement in their wrongful death suit.

The accident that killed Milton Olin Jr., a 65-year-old attorney and former chief operating officer of Napster, happened on December 8, 2013. Olin was in the bike lane in Calabasas, when the officer drifted over and hit him. He died on impact “after landing on the patrol car’s windshield and shattering the glass.”

According to KTLA News, police are looking for a driver of a hit and run vehicle that struck and killed a man in a tragic Compton bicycle accident. Apparently, the victim, Darnell Parker was cycling to a relative’s house just after midnight on May 20th, when he was hit at Alondra Boulevard and Bradfield Avenue.  The driver fled the area. Officers responded, and Parker was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers plan to check surveillance cameras in the area in hopes to get more information as to who the driver could be.

Parker’s family is left to deal with the tragic aftermath of his untimely death. His daughter-in-law, Tracy Brown, stated, “He has children that are gonna need him. They’re gonna miss out on very important things they can’t even share with their dad, and I just think it’s sad.”  Continue Reading
