Coronavirus–Staying Safe Amid So-Cal Reopening

The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic led to statewide shelter in place orders. For months, California residents have been required to stay home and only go out for necessities. Recently, counties throughout Southern California have started to lift some restrictions and allow more businesses and activities to begin again.

Los Angeles county is opening slowly–According to ABC 7 News, County officials are “working with industry leaders and health officials to safely make way for Los Angeles County to reopen by the Fourth of July.” Other Southern California counties, such as Orange County and Ventura County have already allowed for more businesses to open including modified dine-in at restaurants.

Van Nuys Security Guard Suffers Personal Injuries After Asking Customer to Wear Mask

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, cities throughout California and the country have asked citizens to wear masks when outside the home, specifically in places such as stores where they may come in contact with others. The goal of the masks is to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Many California stores are requiring masks before customers are permitted to enter the store.

Recently, a Van Nuys security guard was injured by two men who were not wearing masks inside the local Target. According to ABC 7 News, several security guards had to escort two men from the store because they refused to wear masks. During this attempt to get them to leave the store, the two men turned around “and started hitting one of the guards.” As a result of the altercation, the guard suffered a broken arm. The two men suspected of causing the injuries were later arrested and are facing criminal charges. Although these men are currently facing criminal charges, the injured security guard can also bring a civil claim against them for his personal injuries that resulted from their attack.

The Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic has taken a serious toll on our country and the world. The State of California is in a state of lockdown in an attempt to slow the spread of the virus. According to ABC7 News, California residents are ordered to stay home and practice “social distancing” unless you need to perform an “essential activity.” Essential activities include things like getting food, getting medical help or supplies, caring for a family member or pet, exercising as long as you maintain six feet distance from other people.
