A woman visiting the beach in Newport Beach, California, was hit by a city vehicle while lying on the beach.
According to CBS Los Angeles, the woman, who has not yet been identified, was resting on a spot in the sand by the lifeguard headquarters. Around 1 p.m., a male driver drove a Newport Beach City truck, rolling over the woman in the process.
The woman was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive. It has been confirmed the truck’s tires rolled over her and she suffered injuries to her chest and her pelvis.
The driver of the truck stayed at the scene, horrified at what happened. The city of Newport Beach issued the following statement: “We extend our sincerest sympathies and concern to the person injured, and hope for a fast and full recovery. We go to great lengths to provide the utmost safety and service to our residents and visitors, and are dismayed that this occurred.”
An unexpected accident like this one can be life changing. When a person is hit by a car, they typically sustain serious injuries that require not only hospital stays, but a long period of recovery. This can mean medical expenses for the hospital as well as physical therapy and medical appointments during the recovery process. The woman injured in this accident should speak with an experienced personal injury attorney to see how she can receive financial compensation for her injuries.
In a case like this, if the driver of the city truck was an employee of the city, the injured woman can make personal injury claims against not only the driver of the truck, but the city as well. Legally, the city too can be liable for the harm that befell this beach goer. There is also an economic benefit for naming the city, as they likely have more money to provide compensation for the woman’s injuries.
