Fatal Los Angeles Car Crash at L&E Oyster Bar

A recent Los Angeles car crash ended with one dead, four injured and a seriously damaged restaurant. According to Eater, “A vehicle hit a motorcyclist near the intersection of Silver Lake Boulevard and Effie Street, overturning the car and completely sheering the tree in front, killing one unidentified person and injuring several others.” One employee of L&E Oyster Bar was uninjured and upstairs when the fatal car crash happened and worked to attempt to put out some of the flames.

Los Angeles is slowly re-opening and while restaurant car crashes are not normal, deadly car accidents happen all the time in LA and throughout the country and we will likely see an increase in them as more people get back on the roads. Wrongful Death Claim Filed Against Glendale Nursing Home for COVID-19 Death

The effects of the COVID-19 coronavirus have been tragic worldwide. Millions have died from the virus, and it has been especially deadly for those older than 65. The virus spreads so easily and quickly, especially in places with large groups, and so many older people in nursing homes have been particularly at risk. Sadly, coronavirus has devastated many nursing homes throughout the country.

Recently, a family brought a wrongful death claim against a Glendale nursing home after their loved one died from coronavirus. ABC 7 News reported that 77-year-old Ricardo Saldana contracted COVID-19 at the Glenhaven Healthcare nursing home and passed away because of the virus. Saldana’s children claim that the nursing home was negligent in handling the coronavirus outbreak.

The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic led to statewide shelter in place orders. For months, California residents have been required to stay home and only go out for necessities. Recently, counties throughout Southern California have started to lift some restrictions and allow more businesses and activities to begin again.

Los Angeles county is opening slowly–According to ABC 7 News, County officials are “working with industry leaders and health officials to safely make way for Los Angeles County to reopen by the Fourth of July.” Other Southern California counties, such as Orange County and Ventura County have already allowed for more businesses to open including modified dine-in at restaurants.

Van Nuys Security Guard Suffers Personal Injuries After Asking Customer to Wear Mask

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, cities throughout California and the country have asked citizens to wear masks when outside the home, specifically in places such as stores where they may come in contact with others. The goal of the masks is to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Many California stores are requiring masks before customers are permitted to enter the store.

Recently, a Van Nuys security guard was injured by two men who were not wearing masks inside the local Target. According to ABC 7 News, several security guards had to escort two men from the store because they refused to wear masks. During this attempt to get them to leave the store, the two men turned around “and started hitting one of the guards.” As a result of the altercation, the guard suffered a broken arm. The two men suspected of causing the injuries were later arrested and are facing criminal charges. Although these men are currently facing criminal charges, the injured security guard can also bring a civil claim against them for his personal injuries that resulted from their attack.

Fewer Cars On Los Angeles Roads Leads to More 100+ mph Tickets

The stay at home orders due to the current COVID-19 pandemic have meant fewer drivers on Los Angeles roads and roads statewide. However, according to the Los Angeles Daily News, the number of drivers pulled over for driving at speeds higher than 100 mph has increased dramatically, by 87%, in the first month of the stay at home order.

California Highway Patrol issued 2,493 citations to drivers driving 100mph or more from March 19th to April 19th. During the same time last year, only 1,335 citations of this kind were given out. Officers believe this increase in fast driving is due to the roads being “deserted by California standards.”

Families of Kobe Helicopter Crash Victims Sue for Wrongful Death

Earlier this year the world was shocked by the news that basketball star Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, were killed in a tragic helicopter accident in Calabasas. The tragedy hit particularly hard for Southern Californians, as Bryant played for the Los Angeles Lakers for 20 seasons.

The crash occurred on the morning of January 26, 2020–Bryant was traveling to a basketball game with his daughter and eight others. These passengers and the pilot were also killed in the crash. The exact cause of the crash is still being investigated, though foggy weather conditions are thought to have contributed to the accident. Now, the surviving family members of these victims are bringing a Los Angeles wrongful death suit against the owner of the helicopter, Island Express Helicopters.

Tiger Woods Sued by Fan Claiming He was Injured by Caddie

Recently, NBC Golf Channel reported that Tiger Woods is currently being sued by one of his fans. The fan, Brian Borruso, claimed that back in 2018 at the Valspar Championship, he was pushed by Tiger Woods’ caddie, Joe LaCava, causing him to fall into the crowd and injure himself.

Borruso claimed that he was attempting to take a selfie at the 13th green as Woods came up to complete his shot. According to Borruso, LaCava came up and told him to get out of the way and then “intentionally shoved” him. As a result of the push, Borruso fell and suffered “permanent or continuing injuries.” Borruso has filed a personal injury claim against LaCava the caddie, as well as Tiger Woods, because he is LaCava’s employer.

Because Los Angeles streets are typically so crowded, it is very common for residents to travel on foot and walk to get where they need to go. Even now, with the current COVID-19 crisis, people still need to walk either for exercise or to get necessities at the store or visit the doctor. Anytime cars and pedestrians are in the same area, it is possible that there could be a pedestrian accident that results in injuries or even the death of the pedestrian.

According to ABC 7 News, pedestrian accidents were continuing to grow in the Los Angeles area at the beginning of 2020. While there may currently be a slight decline because there is less traffic on the roads due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these accidents still happen. When a traffic accident involves a pedestrian and a car, it usually results in very serious injuries or death to the pedestrian. Though sometimes a pedestrian accident is caused by a pedestrian, more often than not these accidents are caused because drivers are not paying attention. LAPD deputy Moses Catillo stated, “we’re really tired of having to tell loved ones that their family is either severely injured or dead” because of the dramatic increase in accidents involving pedestrians. In 2019, “more than half of the nearly 250 traffic deaths in the city of Los Angeles involved pedestrians” and “three-quarters of the deadly hit and runs in the city involved pedestrians.”
