Arleta Car Accident on the 5 Freeway Kills 2, Injures 2

On the evening of June 11, 2018, a multi-car collision on the 5 Freeway in Arleta caused the deaths of a 30-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, who died at the scene. Also injured in the multi-car Arleta accident were 2 other people, including an 85-year-old woman and a 21-year-old woman.

According to ABC 7 News, the two injury victims were transported to the hospital. The 85-year-old woman was in fair condition, but the 21-year-old woman was in critical condition. The crash shutdown all southbound lanes of the freeway for nearly seven hours.

Officials believe that the crash occurred when one of the vehicles stalled in the middle lane of the southbound 5 freeway. Another vehicle following behind struck the car traveling at freeway speeds, causing other vehicles to be involved.

Our personal injury attorneys at Walch Law are very familiar with freeway accidents. Higher speeds and thousands of cars make freeways an easy location for an accident to occur. A freeway car accident like this is life-changing. When a crash involves several cars, with wrongful deaths and several injured victims, there will be a detailed investigation as to the cause of the accident, even if it appears the cause is clear—like the stalled car in this case. Investigators will look to see if any of the subsequent crashes could have been avoided or if the driver of the stalled car was negligent in anyway.

Sorting through the details of an accident like this one can be complicated. If you have been injured in a multi-car accident or lost a loved one in a multi-car accident in Los Angeles, it is important to speak to a qualified attorney. Because multiple cars are involved, it can be difficult determining who is responsible for the crash, and to what extent. It will require sorting through the details of the investigation to determine which driver, or drivers, may be liable to the others for the wrongful death and personal injuries caused by the accident.
