Stray Bullet Causes East Los Angeles Wrongful Death

According to ABC 7 News, a woman killed in a Los Angeles wrongful death accident when the Uber car she was riding in was hit by what is believed to have been a bullet from a gang-related shooting.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials responded to the shooting around 10:15 p.m. Three people, including the driver, were in the Uber. They heard gunshots, and then the vehicle was hit. The victim, a woman in her 30s, was sitting in the passenger seat when she was shot in the head. She was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, buy died shortly thereafter.

Investigators believe that the incident was gang-related, but that the woman was not a target or involved in a gang. They believe the bullet that hit her was a stray bullet—the car was simply caught in a crossfire. According to police, “the bullet shattered the window, [and] struck the victim.”

As of right now, investigators do not know who the shooter was, but are hoping to get further witness information. They ask anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at (323) 890-5500.

No one expects their Uber ride to end in tragedy like this. If the shooter is found, not only will that person face criminal charges, but he or she will also be civilly liable to the victim’s family for her wrongful death. When a very serious or catastrophic event like this occurs, it is normal for the family of the victim to fall into shock and not know what to do. A wrongful death claim can help you obtain financial recovery to cover unexpected costs such as funeral and burial expenses, and loss of earnings and income. An experienced Los Angeles wrongful death attorney can help you navigate bringing your wrongful death claim.

We hope the shooter in this case can be found and urge anyone with information to contact police. We extend our condolences to the family of this victim and hope they can obtain the justice they deserve.
